A. Zorbas and sons ltd started operating in 1975 in the village of Athienou, of Larnaca city, as a small family bakery.
The popular Athienitiko bread was baked in a traditional oven at the yard of the family’s house and sold to the residents of the village and surrounding areas.
On the 22nd of November 1979 and the business had grown, the company was established as a Limited Company with its main activity being the production and sales of bakery products.
In 1988 the first bakery in Nicosia opened on the busy Ifigenias street. In the decade that followed, Zorbas Bakeries expanded all over Cyprus.
Back then “decisions were made based on instinct, willingness and many times, on emotions”, Mr. Costas Zorbas -President of the group – mentions. In the following years, the company experienced unprecedented growth and now decisions are based on research and strategical analysis of the market.
Just before the millennium and while Zorbas Bakeries had already grown into a bakery, dessert and sandwich store, the first food station (Magerio) was introduced at Aghios Antonios store.
Coffee Berry
A collaboration that emerged from the need to offer high quality and unique coffee using contemporary brewing methods. Utilising the know-how and experience of Coffee Berry, we welcomed in our bakeries, a unique coffee to-go concept, completely based on the 3rd wave of coffee and consumer’s contemporary lifestyle. An impressive station that draws attention immediately and offers exclusive coffee varieties from origins such as Costa Rica and Ethiopia, hot and cold beverages and selected tea herbs.
Today
The small bakery of Athienou, has been transformed into one of the largest group of companies in Cyprus but it is still driven by the human approach and the same values, which it has honoured since its beginning.
With consistency towards the main goal of enhancing the quality of consumers’ everyday life, we make and offer breads, bakes and other bakery products, pastry products, food, sandwiches, salads, yoghurt-based meals and Coffee Berry coffee.
The human factor remains decisive for us. “Since its founding, our company believes that its most important and valuable asset is its people. We are a family run business and feel proud of our people who have supported us for years, basing our relationship on respect and sincerity. This has been, is and will be our strength,” said Dimitris Zorbas, CEO of the company.
